2021 Woodlands 'Margaret' is 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot and 8% Malbec from Woodlands Vineyard.
The fruit was hand-picked between 26th March and 10th April 2021, destemmed and hand-sorted, then transferred to stainless steel fermenters. The must spent 22 days on skins, and after pressing the wine matured in French barrels for 18 months, of which 44% were new.
This wine is absolutely delicious.
Our 2021 'Margaret' has a deep ruby hue. The nose is inviting with blackberry, black cherry, mulberry, and orange rind at the fore. At the same time the nose is spicy - showing cinnamon, cardamon and star anise, along with a touch of graphite.
The palate is juicy, lively and vibrant. Black fruits are accented on the palate, combining with red plum, redcurrant and cacao. The tannins are smooth and linger on the finish.
Pair with slow roasted lamb leg and pistachio parsley gremolata, swap in pierogies if you're going vegetarian.

Woodlands Vineyard
In 1973 cuttings were taken from a nearby vineyard, and an initial planting of eight acres was made in rows heading east-west along the contour of the property – 3 meters between rows and 1.75 meters between vines. The initial planting comprised 3 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon. A further 5 acres was planted between 1974 and 1976, comprising Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc. The old block was completed in 1985, with 4 acres of Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon planted. Subsequent plantings now sees Woodlands with a total of twenty six acres (ten hectares) of vines.
This vineyard is certified organic.
