2023 Woodlands Brook Emily

'Emily' is our "right bank" red blend, made since 1989.

2023 was another classic vintage in the Wilyabrup Valley. Flowering conditions were excellent, and thereafter conditions remained warm and dry throughout the growing season. In terms of style and weight, wines produced are similar to the 2022 vintage.

This wine is a blend of 45% Cabernet Franc, 45% Merlot, 8% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. The majority of this wine was matured in 300L Hogsheads for 15 months, of which 25% were new.

Our 2023 ‘Emily' smells delicious- with violet, blueberry prominent, a hint of tight grain oak mingling.

The palate is medium bodied, with a spectrum of ripe red and blue fruits. There’s a lovely transparency of flavour to this wine, and great balance. Fine mellow tannins complete the picture.

More easy going in style than say the 2020 or 2021, this is a welcome return to a style we produced in the mid 90’s. 

Match this wine with Woodlands bresaola, which is available at the cellar door; or charred root veggies tossed in brown butter, with crushed almonds and flaky salt.
