This wine is made in very limited quantities, an average of 300 cases being produced each year.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e‘Emily’ began in 1989. Woodlands had almost ceased production, but David Watson and his great friend Peter Anderson decided to make a “right bank” blend comprising equal parts of the five Bordeaux grapes. In 2008 ‘Emily’ moved to our Woodlands Brook Vineyard, where it has been produced from since.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e2020 produced excellent wines, albeit in very low quantities. Winter was classic with good rainfall, and spring was generally moderate, however in October there was some significant hail which led to a yield reduction of around 10-20%. Summer was hot and dry, \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003esimilar to\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e1980, with almost no rain falling, further reducing yields and concentrating flavours.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eOnce harvested the fruit was destemmed and mechanically sorted by our gravity fed system, then hand sorted over a vibrating sorting table berry by berry. Fermentation went well, and the must spent between 14 and 28 days on skins. Following fermentation this wine was matured in 300L and 500L French oak hogsheads for 14 months, of which fifty percent were new.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eOur 2020 ‘Emily’ is a blend of 45% Cabernet Franc, 45% Merlot, 8% Malbec, 1% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Petit Verdot.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e2020 ‘Emily’ is all about power and passion. The extremely deep crimson colour indicates the power and concentration of this young wine. The nose unveils violet, black cherries and \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003ewild flower\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e floating on a bed of vanilla and savoury chai-spices. The palate has a very clean crisp entry - revealing a wave of raspberries, \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003ecranberries\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e and red plums. The palate is medium bodied, but fully structured - tannins build and develop as the wine \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eopens up\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e.
